Anna Giulia Cardone is currently pursuing a PhD in Materials Science and Technology at the Politecnico di Torino in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), with a focus on the synthesis of nanostructured electrocatalysts for green hydrogen production via acidic water electrolysis. Her research aims to reduce the use of critical raw materials by optimizing iridium utilization in anodic catalysts and minimizing platinum loading at the cathode.

In the coming months, Anna Giulia will investigate the stability of these catalysts at HI ERN within Dr. Serhiy Cherevko’s group. In particular, she will focus on Ir-based layered materials for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and transition-metal phosphides for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). These materials will be studied using a scanning flow cell (SFC) coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), enabling real-time monitoring of dissolution processes under electrochemical operating conditions.
